Hell People and City Men

a sort of conversation with myself as a kid

In 2014 I submitted a sketchbook to The Sketchbook Project. I had recently found some drawings I had done as a kid (probably in elementary school). I decided to recreate the drawings using the skill I have now while trying to be true to my childhood imagination. As a friend pointed out, I must have had some interesting ideas about what I thought it meant to live in the city. Honestly I'm not sure where the images came from, but for context I grew up in the suburbs near New York City in the 1980s.

The sketchbook is now in the physical library of The Sketchbook Project. Before coming to rest there it got to visit 16 cities in the US. If you have any inclination, give the project a try. They let you know when and where your book is checked out as it tours the country and your work gets to sit on the shelf beside amazing work by artists from all over.
